NEW CHESS CHAMPION
15-year-old Wangdong from Guangdong is the new Under 16 National Chess Champion. He beat Dingcheng in the competition yesterday, which was held at Shenzhen Town Hall.
Wangdong and Dingcheng have competed against each other many times before. They were both in the Under 16 Chess Championship last year, which Dingcheng won. Dingcheng has held the title for 2 years.
Today's game was a very long and exciting one. It lasted for more than two hours and both players were very tired at the end of it. Wangdong said, "I have played against Dingcheng before, so I knew that he was an excellent player. I was extremely nervous about the game, but I wanted to win the title this year."
Wangdong won the RMB 5,000 prize and a trip to Hong Kong. He will compete in the International Under 16 Chess Championship in November.
