Unit 8 I'll help clean up the city parks.文化背景知识介绍 广东省教育厅教研室 Volunteering means to work without being paid. Volunteering is a popular activity in the United States. Students are often able to participate in volunteer activities through a church, their school, or an organization such as the Boy Scouts (or Girl Scouts) of America. Volunteers often participate in fund raising activities such as individually selling cookies door-to-door (in the case of Girl Scouts) or washing cars for one or two days as a group. Volunteers in a church group or a school may visit hospitals, senior citizen institutions, or orphanages. Volunteering benefits students in the following ways. (1) Students learn to contribute to others less fortunate than themselves. (2) Students become more mature and have a wider vision through experiences interacting with different kinds of people.
