Lesson 55 Note: This lesson presents a long dialogue containing various structures and verb tenses the Ss have learnt. Step 1 Revision 1 Revise What are you going to do this evening? etc. (SB page 13, Part 2. Get the Ss to ask each other in pairs about their plans for next week.) 2 Ask What are you doing today/now? and get the Ss to ask each other in pairs. 3 Get the Ss to ask each other about what they did last week. 4 Ask randomly What are you going to do next Tuesday? What are you doing today? What did you do last Friday? etc. Then get Ss to ask the questions. Step 2 Presentation SB page 55, the first part of the dialogue. Speech Cassette Lesson 55. Books closed! Tell the Ss that Mr and Mrs Turner are on a train.(Write Mr and Mrs Turner on the Bb.)Ask Where is Mrs Turners ticket? Play the tape for the Ss to find the answer. Ask What about Mr Turners ticket? Play the tape again. Help the Ss to answer He cant find it! Books open! Let the Ss look at the dialogue for a moment, then play the tape again for them to listen and repeat. Let the Ss guess the meaning of conductor and thought. Then they practise the dialogue in pairs. Get some pairs to act it out. Step 3 Presentation Revise and practise this dialogue: A: May I borrow your pen, please? B: Certainly! Here you are! A: Thank you. Introduce this dialogue: A: May I borrow your ruler, please? B: Sorry, I cant find it! A: Oh, it doesnt matter. Go round the class and practise these dialogues. Get the Ss to give true answers! Step 4 Practice Play the tape of the second part of the dialogue for the Ss to listen and repeat. Get the Ss to practise the dialogue in threes, with suitable actions, and using their books for reference only. Explain the use of sir and madam. Step 5 Practice Revise locations, by placing objects around the room. Then ask Wheres my book? Help the Ss to answer Its over there, behind the door! etc. Step 6 Presentation Play the tape of the third part of the dialogue and get the Ss to practise it in threes. Practise the fourth part of the dialogue in the same way. Explain that Better late than never! is an English proverb: see if the Ss can think of a Chinese equivalent. Finally, get the Ss to practise the whole dialogue in threes(one person can play both the conductor and the girl). Remind the Ss to look at the words in the book before they speak (so that they are not just reading aloud), and to perform suitable actions. Ask the Ss to give the dialogue a title. Step 7 Workbook Wb Lesson 55, Exx. 1—3. Do Exx.1 and 2 orally. Ex.2 may be done in pairs; check the answers with the whole class. For Ex. 3, do the first two sentences as a model, then let the Ss work alone or in pairs. Check the answers with the whole class. The answers are: were; came; took; showed; could; thought; was; was; was; saw; asked; Is; is; picked; gave; thanked. Do Ex. 4 if time permits. Homework Finish off the Workbook exercises.
